Dec. 26, 2006 at 11:52 PM   |   Comments

BUFFALO, N.Y., Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Chris Drury had two goals and pair of assists as the Buffalo Sabres built an early 6-goal lead and coasted to a 6-3 victory over Washington.

The Northeast-leading Sabers were up 6-0 with 1:30 to play in the first period when Kris Beech put the visiting Capitals on the board with his fifth goal of the season.

Alexander Ovechkin and Chris Clark added goals for Washington.

It was all Buffalo in the first period as the Sabres scored four times against Brian Campbell, who was pulled for Olag Kolzig, who gave up a pair himself but stopped 31 shots in the game.

Brian Campbell opened the scoring for Buffalo just 1:51 into the game and was followed by Drury's 18th and 19th goals of the season. Ales Kotalik, Maxin Afinogenov and Thomas Vanek also lit the lamp for the Sabres, who have won two of their last three games.

Ryan Miller notched 23 saves in goal for Buffalo.
