NFL: Carolina 10, Atlanta 3

ATLANTA, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- Carolina made a 10-point second quarter stand up Sunday afternoon in a 10-3 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.

Chris Weinke threw for one touchdown while completing only 4 of 7 passes for 32 yards; DeShaun Foster gained 102 yards on 28 carries; and DeAngelo Williams added 82 yards on 21 carries for the Panthers (7-8), who broke a four-game losing streak.

Weinke broke a 17-game losing streak as a starting quarterback.

Despite surpassing the 1,000-yard rushing barrier for a quarterback in a single season, Michael Vick was 9-for-20 for for 109 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions and gained 32 yards on four rushing attempts; Warrick Dunn gained only 29 yards on nine carries; and Morten Andersen kicked his 539th career field goal for the Falcons (7-8), whose slim NFC playoff hopes are on life-support.

With his three-pointer, Anderson surpassed Gary Anderson as the NFL's all-time leading field goal kicker.
