RIVER RIDGE, La., Dec. 24 (UPI) -- The uncle of New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Lewis was shot and killed in Kenner, La., outside of the Club Big Hats Cafe & Lounge.
Kenner police found Emmitt Selders's body lying on the ground next to a blue Chevrolet Monte Carlo, The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported Sunday.
The Kenner Police Department said he apparently had been shot three times at close range and died at the scene.
There were reportedly no witnesses and no one has said anything about hearing gunshots or seeing Selders involved in any fight, said the police.
Selders' sister, Aline Selders described him as "a very lovable brother" who became "the man of the family" after their father's death last month.
Lewis was very close to Selders and visited his grieving family before leaving for New York, where the Saints are to play the Giants, the sister said.
"He was his (Lewis') biggest fan," she said. "He loved the Saints."
