NEW YORK, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- San Francisco wide receiver Antonio Bryant Friday drew a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.
Because the suspension starts immediately, Bryant is done for the 2006 season. It includes any playoff games.
The 49ers noted on its Web site that if the team does not reach the playoffs, Bryant will be suspended for the first two regular season games in 2007, but will be eligible to participate in training camp and pre-season games.
In six NFL seasons, the 6-foot-2 inch, 188-pounder has 19 touchdowns on 250 receptions for 3,837 yards.
Bryant was a second-round draft pick by Dallas in 2002 out of the University of Pittsburgh.
This season, he has three touchdowns on 40 catches for 733 yards.
Bryant has played for the Cowboys, the 49ers, and the Cleveland Browns.
San Francisco heads into the last two weeks of the regular season still mathematically alive in the NFC playoff chase.
