NFL: Edmonton 3, Phoenix 2

GLENDALE, Ariz., Dec. 22 (UPI) -- The Edmonton Oilers downed the Phoenix Coyotes 3-2 Thursday on the strength of Petr Sykora's goal with 1:14 left in regulation.

Ales Hemsky chipped in a goal and an assist for the Oilers, who snapped a two-game losing streak. Backup goaltender Jussi Markkanen got the start and made 21 saves.

Owen Nolan and Yanic Perreault each scored for the Coyotes, who have dropped two straight games and five of their last six. Curtis Joseph allowed three goals on 31 shots in the loss.
