ZURICH, Switzerland, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Germany has ended 2006 as the top ranked women's soccer team for the fourth consecutive year, FIFA said Friday.
Germany lost just once in its 13 games in 2006 to hold onto its lead over the No. 2 United States and third-ranked Norway. Sweden is fourth and North Korea fifth in the year's final rankings.
By moving into the Top 5, Sweden and North Korea knocked Brazil and France down to sixth and seventh, respectively. Denmark, China and Japan round out the final FIFA Top 10.
Germany's only loss in 2006 was to China. The German's also defeated the United States in the final of the Algarve Cup on penalty shots. The United States won 22 matches on the year and won titles in Gold Cup and Peace Queen Cup.
