COLORADO SPRINGS, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Troy Calhoun, offensive coordinator for the NFL's Houston Texans, has been hired as head football coach for the Air Force Academy Falcons in Colorado.
Calhoun, who attended the Air Force Academy, was with the Texans for one season, having worked previously up the road from Colorado Springs in Denver as assistant to Broncos Coach Mike Shanahan. He has coached as an assistant on both the offensive and defensive sides of the game.
Calhoun was a freshman quarterback for Air Force in 1985 when the Falcons went 12-1 and finished fifth in the national college polls.
He replaces Fisher DeBerry, who retired last week after 23 years as Air Force head coach and four others as a Falcons' assistant.
In 2006, Air Force was 4-8, including 3-5 in the Mountain West Conference. The Falcons have had three consecutive losing seasons, the first time that's happened since 1979-81.
