Glidemaster's owner, driver honored

HARRISBURG, Pa., Dec. 11 (UPI) -- The United States Harness Writers Association recognized trotting Triple Crown winner Glidemaster by honoring his owner and driver.

Brittany Farms near Lexington, Ky., owned by Chicago commodities trader George Segal, was designated Norman Woolworth Memorial Owner of the Year. John Campbell, already in the Hall of Fame, who drove Glidemaster in the Hambletonian, was named 2006 Driver of the Year.

Glidemaster, the eighth trotter to sweep the Triple Crown events, ended the year with eight wins in 15 starts, winning more than $1.9 million. Passionate Glide, also from Brittany Farms, racked up 13 wins in 15 starts for nearly $1.1 million.

The Glen Garnsey Memorial was given to trainer Mickey Burke, who has 427 wins and with more than $5.5 million. Driver Jody Jamieson won the Rising Star Award. He has won 551 races in 2,850 starts for more than $8.6 million.

The awards dinner is scheduled for Feb. 25 in Atlantic City.
