LANDOVER, Md., Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Jeff Garcia threw two touchdown passes and the Eagles' defense thwarted a late rally Sunday afternoon as Philadelphia beat Washington, 21-19.
Garcia was 15-for-23 for 164 yards, and Brian Westbrook had 126 all-purpose yards -- 88 rushing and 38 receiving -- for Philadelphia. Donte' Stallworth and L.J. Smith caught touchdown passes, and safety Michael Lewis returned a pass interception 84 yards for a second-quarter touchdown for the Eagles (7-6) -- whose defense denied Washington any touchdowns on three trips into the red zone in the second half.
Ladell Betts gained a career-high 171 yards on 33 carries, and Jason Campbell threw for one touchdown and 182 yards on 15-of-27 passing, but had two interceptions for Washington. Antwaan Randle-El caught a touchdown pass, and Shaun Suisham kicked four field goals for the Redskins (4-9), who have lost four of their last five games.
Philadelphia, in the hunt for an NFC wild-card berth, plays the 7-6 New York Giants on the road next Sunday.
