NHL: Montreal 4, N.Y. Islanders 2

UNIONDALE, N.Y., Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Two power-play goals by Saku Koivu Thursday night helped Montreal beat the New York Islanders, 4-2.

New York took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Arron Asham at 1:25 of the first period, but the Canadiens got goals from Craig Rivet and Guillaume Latendresse to take a 2-1 edge into the first intermission.

Koivu's first goal at 6:51 of the second upped Montreal's lead to 3-1, and they were not threatened from that point.

Michael Ryder and Sheldon Souray both had two assists, and goalie Cristobal Huet made 25 saves on 27 shots for the Canadiens, who had lost their previous two games.

Asham and Mike Sillinger each scored once, and Rick DiPietro gave up four goals on 36 shots for the Islanders, who have lost their last two games.

On the power play, Montreal was 2-for-6, and the Islanders went 1-for-5.
