NHL: Anaheim 6, Washington 1

WASHINGTON, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Todd Marchant had a goal and two assists Friday night as Anaheim jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period and finished with a 6-1 rout at Washington.

Shawn Thornton, whose goal began the easy victory, had a goal and an assist for Anaheim. Teemu Selanne also had a goal and an assist, and Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 26 saves on 27 shots for the Ducks, who have won seven of their last eight games.

Alexander Semin prevented a shutout with a power-play goal at 5:06 of the third period on assists by Alexander Ovechkin and Donald Brashear. Olaf Kolzig gave up six goals on 34 shots for the Capitals, who had a four-game winning streak snapped.

On the power play, Washington went 1-for-8, and Anaheim was 0-for-3.
