COL BKB: Notre Dame 99, Alabama 85

SOUTH BEND, Ind., Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Russell Carter scored 27 points Thursday night as Notre Dame upset fifth-ranked Alabama, 99-85.

It was the second time this week the unranked Fighting Irish beat a top 25 team. They beat Maryland Sunday, 81-74, when the Terps were ranked 19th.

Carter also had six rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Colin Falls and Kyle McAlarney scored 20 points apiece for Notre Dame. Rob Kurz added 14 points, 12 rebounds and three assists, as the Irish rose to 7-1.

Alonzo Gee had 24 points, eight rebounds and two steals for Alabama. Mykal Riley had 18 points, six rebounds and three assists; Jermareo Davidson had 14 points and nine rebounds; and Ronald Steele had 13 points and three assists for the Crimson Tide, who fell to 7-1.

The game was tied, 49-49, at halftime, but Notre Dame out-scored the Crimson Tide, 50-36, in the second half.

Alabama won the rebounding battle, 36-33.
