NEW YORK, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Florida State Coach Bobby Bowden has been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend, Ind.
Bowden, the winningest coach in major college football history, was joined by running backs Emmitt Smith (Florida), Mike Rozier (Nebraska), quarterbacks Charlie Ward (Florida State) and Mike Phipps (Purdue), defensive tackle Carl Eller (Minnesota), and defensive end Bruce Smith (Virginia Tech) in being installed in ceremonies Tuesday.
"I have been very fortunate," Bowden said. "I am truly honored."
Bowden will guide the 6-6 Seminoles in the Emerald Bowl against UCLA on Dec. 27 at San Francisco.
He has a career record of 359-107-4 with three schools.
Former Arizona State defensive back Pat Tillman was honored posthumously. The summa cum laude graduate interrupted an NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals enlist in the military and was killed in Afghanistan while serving as an Army Ranger. He represented at Tuesday's dinner by his brother Kevin.
The class will officially be enshrined during a ceremony next summer.
