Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
WHANGAPARAOA, New Zealand, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Australia's Nathan Green Sunday captured the New Zealand Open in suburban Auckland, New Zealand.
He shot 6-under-par 65 on the final day to finish with a 72-hole score of 5-under 279.
Green was two shots better than Australians Marcus Fraser (73), Jarrod Moseley (70), Wade Ormsby (70) and Brett Rumford (71). Michael Campbell (72) of New Zealand and Nick Dougherty (67) of England also finished two strokes back.
"I can't believe it," said Green, who captured his first European Tour tournament. "We definitely had the best of the conditions this morning. It was brutal out there this afternoon. I managed to just hang on. I saw the boys had a bit of trouble on 16 and 17, so I am just ecstatic to earn this win. This was the hardest day of my life."
Green set a tone for the final round with birdies on two of the first three holes.
Fraser had a share of the lead with England's Graeme Storm and Kim Felton of Australia after three rounds.
