NHL: Carolina 5, Boston 2

RALEIGH, N.C., Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Carolina scored two goals in the second period and two more in the third Saturday night to beat the Boston Bruins, 5-2.

Boston had a 2-1 lead after the first period as Shean Donovan and Brad Stuart scored after the first of two goals by Carolina's Eric Staal.

Erik Cole and Justin Williams scored goals to give Carolina a 3-2 lead in the second period.

Staal and Ray Whitney scored in the third period to cap the scoring.

Rod Brind'Amour had two assists, and Cam Ward made 17 saves on 19 shots for the Hurricanes, who have split their last six games.

Brad Stuart scored the other goal, and Tim Thomas was beaten five times on 30 shots for the Bruins, who had a three-game winning streak snapped.

On the power play, Boston went 0-for-5, and Carolina was 0-for-3.
