COL BKB: Ohio State 78, Valparaiso 58

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Daequan Cook had 20 points, five rebounds and three steals Saturday as top-ranked Ohio State defeated Valparaiso, 78-58.

Freshman Greg Oden, in his Buckeye debut, added 14 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots in 23 minutes of action. Oden, a seven-foot center, has been recovering from June surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist.

Ron Lewis had 10 points for Ohio State (7-1), which was coming off its first loss of the season, a 98-89 setback to sixth-ranked North Carolina.

Samuel Haanpaa led the Crusaders with 18 points, while Brandon McPherson had 11 for Valparaiso (3-4).
