KANSAS CITY, Mo., Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Kansas City Chiefs running back Priest Holmes will not play any more this season.
Tuesday was the last day the Chiefs could have activated Holmes.
However, Chiefs General Manager Carl Peterson said that recent medical tests have been encouraging and Holmes hopes to play in 2007. Holmes was injured during a game in October.
"Although Priest Holmes has made much progress medically this fall, we have decided with Priest that he will finish the 2006 season on Reserve/PUP," said Peterson.
"Holmes is still under contract to the Chiefs for the 2007, 2008 and 2009 seasons," Peterson said.
Holmes joined the Chiefs as a free agent from Baltimore in 2001. He has run for a club-record 5,933 yards with 76 touchdowns, while catching 246 passes for 2,360 yards and seven scores.
Overall, Holmes has played in 109 career games, 80 starts, with 8,035 rushing yards and 86 touchdowns, while catching 334 passes for 2,945 yards and eight scores.
