NHL: St. Louis 4, Columbus 3

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- Jamal Mayers had two goals and an assist and Bill Guerin scored the only goal in a shootout Wednesday night as the St. Louis Blues beat Columbus, 4-3.

Guerin -- participating in his first shootout of the season -- put the puck between goalie Pascal Leclaire's legs in the fourth round. St. Louis sealed the victory when Manny Legace stopped Manny Malhotra's shot.

Ryan Johnson also scored a goal for the Blues, who had lost three straight coming into the game. Legace made 29 saves.

Nikolai Zherdev had a goal and an assist, and Rostislav Klesla and Fredrik Modin scored goals for the Blue Jackets, who lost their seventh straight and have the worst record in the NHL. Leclaire made 35 saves on 38 shots.

Earlier Wednesday, Columbus announced the hiring of Ken Hitchcock to replace interim coach Gary Agnew -- who had led the Blue Jackets to a record of 0-4-0 after he took over for Gerard Gallant, who was fired Nov. 13.
