NHL: Edmonton 6, St. Louis 2

EDMONTON, Alberta, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Ryan Smyth scored twice in a three-goal first period Thursday night as Edmonton beat the St. Louis Blues, 6-2.

Marty Reasoner, Joffrey Lupul, Marc-Andre Bergeron and Fernando Pisani all scored once. Ales Hemsky tied a career single game-high with three assists, and Dwayne Roloson gave up two goals on 27 shots for the Oilers, who have won two of their last three games.

Keith Tkachuk scored unassisted at 6:58 of the second period. Ryan Johnson scored 17 seconds into the third, and goalies Manny Legace and Jason Bacashihua combined to allow six goals on 28 shots for the Blues, who have dropped their last two games.

St. Louis forward Doug Weight, a former Oiler, played in his 1,000th NHL regular-season game. He began his career with Edmonton from 1993-2001.

On the power play, Edmonton went 4-for-10, and the Blues were 0-for-3.
