COL FB: West Virginia 45, Pittsburgh 27

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Steve Slaton scored four touchdowns Thursday night as 7th-ranked West Virginia beat Pittsburgh, 45-27, in college football's 99th "Backyard Brawl."

In his latest monstrous performance, Slaton rushed for 219 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries, and scored two other touchdowns on six receptions for 130 yards. Quarterback Pat White rushed for 219 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries, and went 10-for-15 passing for 195 yards and the two touchdowns.

Darius Reynaud had three catches for 53 yards for the Mountaineers (9-1, 4-1 Big East). West Virginia gained 641 total yards of total offense, including 437 yards rushing.

Tyler Palko went 28-for-37 for 341 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions for Pitt. Oderick Turner and Nate Byham each caught touchdown passes for the Panthers (6-5, 2-4), who were out-scored, 21-0, in the fourth quarter on the way to their fourth straight loss.
