NHL: Minnesota 7, Nashville 6

NASHVILLE, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Brian Rolston scored the game-winning goal in the shootout Thursday night as the Minnesota Wild beat the Nashville Predators, 7-6.

The shootout was tied at two goals apiece when Rolston put a backhander past Chris Mason. Josef Vasicek took his shot at making the game even again, but Niklas Backstrom preserved the victory with a stick save.

Mikko Koivu had a goal and two assists, while Pavol Demitra and Stephane Veilleux each had a goal and one assist for the Wild, who sent the game into overtime and then the shootout with three unanswered goals.

Minnesota goalie Manny Fernandez allowed five goals on 20 shots before being pulled for Backstrom in the second period. Backstrom made 24 saves for the Wild, who broke a three-game losing streak.

Steve Sullivan finished with a goal and two assists for the Predators, who had won two straight coming into Thursday night's contest. J.P. Dumont had three assists, and Mason allowed six goals on 45 shots.
