Harvick wins Nextel in Phoenix

PHOENIX, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Kevin Harvick won the Checker Auto Parts 500 Nextel Cup race Sunday at the Phoenix International Raceway.

The No.29 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet driver crossed the finish line a mere 0.250 seconds ahead of Jimmie Johnson.

"Our race car was really good," Harvick said of his fifth victory of the season and the 10th in his "Cup" career.

Newlywed Jeff Gordon brought the field to the green flag to start the next to last race of the 2006 Nextel Cup season. He lasted three laps before Harvick made the move around him to collect five bonus points.

Harvick clinched the five-point bonus for most laps led on lap 189.
