COL BKB: Pittsburgh 86, West. Mich. 67

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Mike Cook scored a team-high 17 points Sunday as fifth-ranked Pittsburgh beat Western Michigan, 86-67.

Ronald Ramon had 16 points and four assists; Sam Young scored 12 points; and Aaron Gray had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds for the Panthers (1-0), who won the inaugural Maggie Dixon Classic.

The contest was in honor of the sister of Pittsburgh Coach Jamie Dixon.

Maggie Dixon was the head coach of women's basketball a the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., when died suddenly last April after suffering a heart arrhythmia.

A presentation honoring Maggie and the Dixon family followed the game.

Shawntes Gary and Derek Drews were the only players to reach double figure scoring totals with 13 and 10 points, respectively for the Broncos (0-1).

Pittsburgh had a 47-22 half-time lead.

Combined, the schools returned seven starters from last season.

This was their first-ever meeting.
