NHL: Atlanta 4, N.Y. Islanders 1

UNIONDALE, N.Y., Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Atlanta used a three-goal first period Saturday night as the catalyst for a 4-1 victory over the New York Islanders.

Marian Hossa had a goal and an assist. J.P. Vigier, Brad Larsen and Steve McCarthy all scored once, while goaltender Johan Hedberg made 21 saves on 22 shots for the Thrashers, who held a wire-to-wire lead in their second win in three games.

Jason Blake scored in the second period on assists by Alexei Zhitnik and Alexei Yashin to prevent a shutout, and Rick DiPietro gave up four goals on 19 shots for the Islanders, who are 3-1 in their last four games.

On the power play, Atlanta was 1-for-5, while the Islanders failed to convert on any of their five chances.
