COL FB: Notre Dame 45, UNC 26

SOUTH BEND, Ind., Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Brady Quinn threw four touchdown passes Saturday afternoon to lead 10th-ranked Notre Dame to a 45-26 victory against North Carolina.

Quinn, a Heisman Trophy contender, went 23-of-35 passing for 346 yards; Jeff Samardzija scored a touchdown on six catches for 177 yards; Darius Walker rushed for 86 yards on 20 carries and one touchdown; while Tom Zbikowski scored on a 52-yard punt return for the Fighting Irish (8-1), who have won six straight games.

Samardzija's touchdown reception gave him a school record 23 in that category.

Joe Dailey completed 14-of-22 passes for 213 yards and three touchdowns; Hakeem Nicks made six receptions for 171 yards and two scores; while Ronnie McGill ran for 61 yards on 13 attempts for the Tar Heels (1-8), who have a six-game losing streak and lost for the 11th straight time at South Bend.
