BC Juvenile: Street Sense sets record

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Street Sense dropped to the back of the pack but then stormed the field to win the Breeders Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs Saturday by a record 10 lengths.

Street Sense had dropped back to 13th with favorite Circular Quay dead last. Midway through the turn, Street Sense made his move, coming around Principle Secret and angled right back to the rail, while Circular Quay swung five-wide to finish second.

Great Hunter finished third, 2 1/4 lengths back, and Scat Daddy was in fourth by another 3 1/4 lengths.

Street Sense covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.59 to collect $1.08 million of the total $2 million purse.

"I believe he's (Street Sense) one of the best 2-year-olds I've ever been on in my life, and we'll see what he does from here," jockey Calvin Borel said.

Trainer Carl Nafziger was already pointing toward the first Saturday in May, hoping Street Sense would be the first Juvenile winner to take the Kentucky Derby as well.

"I didn't expect that kind of performance, but I knew that he was a freaky kind of horse, a really nice horse," Nafziger said. "We love to win at Churchill. We always have. He's my Derby horse. I'd be a fool to say he wasn't."
