BC F&M Turf: Quija Board wins 2nd crown

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Favorite Ouija Board captured her second Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf crown, putting in a workmanlike performance at Churchill Downs Saturday.

Ouija Board first won the 1 3/8-mile contest in 2004 at Lone Star and, as in that race, Film Maker finished second. She placed last year.

"She's proven herself the 'Queen of Racing,'" jockey Frankie Dettori chortled. "She felt better than she ever has."

Ouija Board stayed in the middle of the pack until just before the stretch, moving five or six wide to take command and pouring it on for the final furlong to best Film Maker by 2 1/4 lengths. Honey Rider was another neck back, followed by Wait a While. Ouija Board owner and breeder Lord Derby said he's never had a horse like her. Trainer Edward Dunlop counts himself lucky "to have had her in my life."

"It was a dream run and a dream ride. ... She has the class to quicken and she showed it once again. Fantastic result," Dunlop said.

Ouija Board covered the track in 2:14.55 to take home $1.18 million of the total $2 million purse.

Ouija Board paid $4.80, $3.40 and $2.60; Film Maker, $5.80 and $4.40; and Honey Rider, $4.40. The $2 Exacta paid $33.20.
