BC Mile: Favorite Gorella starting wide

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Gorella, looking to avenge its only loss of the year, was made a 4-1 favorite for the $2.1 million Breeders' Cup Mile, set for this weekend in Louisville, Ky.

Gorella, a 4-year-old, has won four of its five starts. The only loss was May 6 at Churchill Downs, site of Saturday's Breeders' Cup. Gorella, with Julien Leparoux up as jockey, will start from the No. 12 slot for the 14-horse Mile for 3-year-olds and up.

Araafa, ridden by John Velazquez, was given the No. 3 post position and had early odds of 9-2, just ahead of 5-1 Aragorn, Corey Nakatani's mount in the No. 7 slot. Librettist, starting just outside Gorella, has Christophe Soumillon up and is seeing odds at 6-1.

The rest of the Mile field with post position, horse, jockey and odds: 1, Ad Valorem, Jamie Spencer, 20-1; 2, Silent Name, Victor Espinoza, 20-1; 4, Sleeping Indian, Alex Solis, 20-1; 5, Free Thinking, Jose Santos; 15-1; 6, Echo of Light, Frankie Dettori, 10-1; 8, Badge of Silver, Edgar Prado, 12-1; 9, Rob Roy, Ramon Dominguez, 15-1; 10, Miesque's Approval, Eddie Castro, 10-1; 11, Super Frolic, Shaun Bridgmohan, 50-1; and 14, Aussie Rules, Garrett Gomez, 10-1.
