Raynolds files suit against ESPN

NEW BRITAIN, Conn., Oct. 31 (UPI) -- Former ESPN baseball analyst Harold Reynolds has filed suit against ESPN citing a breach of contract for his firing last July.

Reynolds, a former Major League baseball player, had been with ESPN as an analyst for 11 years. He signed a 6-year contract with the network in March.

ESPN offered no formal explanation when they fired Reynolds on July 24 but the New York Post reported at the time that there was an allegation of sexual harassment, which Reynolds denied.

In his lawsuit, filed in Connecticut state court, Reynolds claims he was not told why he was fired, and ESPN failed to conduct an investigation before terminating the analyst.

"I have tried everything possible to handle this situation quietly behind the scenes," Reynolds said. "After numerous conversations and multiple mediation discussions with ESPN executives, it is clear that ESPN had no intention of solving this problem amicably."

An ESPN spokesman told USA Today that Reynolds' suit is "without merit. We stand by our decision. We have no further comment now that litigation has begun."
