Adam Wainwright (1-0) gave up the tying run in the eighth, but got the victory after pitching the final 1 2/3 innings -- including a perfect ninth.

Sean Casey homered and drove in two runs for the Tigers, who have committed six errors in the series. Brandon Inge drove in a run for Detroit with an eight-inning double.

Joel Zumaya (0-1) took the loss.

Game 4 had been rained out Wednesday night, but the weather in St. Louis Thursday night was dry enough to allow the game to be played. Game 5 is scheduled for Friday night.
