SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- The San Francisco Giants announced Friday that Bruce Bochy has agreed to leave the San Diego Padres, signing a three-year deal to manage the Giants.

The team did not reveal the terms of the agreement. The San Jose Mercury News reported that Bochy will receive more than $2 million a year.

The Padres led the National League West for two consecutive years under Bochy, a former catcher who spent 24 years with the Padres as a player, coach and manager.

"Bruce is someone who we have admired from across the field for the last 12 years and I'm excited that he's on our side now," said Brian Sabean, the Giants' senior vice president and general manager. "His Padres teams have been well prepared and played the game the right way. He's the right man to lead the Giants into the future."

Bochy said he would not have left San Diego for any other team.

"I have admired the Giants from afar for many years while I was with the Padres," he said, "and I can't tell you how exciting it will be to play in front of a full house at this beautiful ballpark."
