HOUSTON, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Former Houston Rockets center Hakeem Olajuwon has purchased Houston's historic West mansion on Clear Lake.
Olajuwon purchased the house -- built in 1929 by architect Joseph Finger for oil, lumber and cattle millionaire James Marion West -- for an undisclosed price, the Houston Chronicle reported Wednesday.
David Cook, Olajuwon's real estate broker, said the former basketball star plans to sell the property to developers.
"It's a typical Hakeem move of buying the primo site," Cook said.
"There's a bunch of people that would love to have that mansion," said Barbara Cutsinger, marketing manager for the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership. "It's one of the most beautiful settings."
Olajuwon has purchased many Houston properties over the years and made millions selling them to developers. He has profited on the sales of a former Federal Reserve Bank building and an old World Trade Center building and purchased a historic bank building that he converted into a mosque.
