IRVING, Texas, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Tony Romo has been made the starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys over veteran Drew Bledsoe.

"We're going to start Romo this week," Cowboys Coach Bill Parcells said Wednesday. "Anytime you do something like this, it's not without a lot of consideration. I don't want to make it more than it is. We're doing this and we'll see how it goes."

Dallas, 3-3, plays Carolina this week.

Bledsoe, who has been a pro since 1993, started the Cowboys' first six games this season but was replaced by Romo in the second half of Monday night's 36-22 loss to the New York Giants. Romo has been in the NFL since 2003 but has never started a game.

Part of the team's problem is the inability to protect Bledsoe from rushing defenders. Bledsoe was sacked four times, including once for a safety, by the Giants.

That Romo, sacked twice by New York, is considered more mobile should lessen the chances for quarterback sacks.

For the season, Bledsoe has completed 53.3 percent of his passes for 1,164 yards with seven touchdowns and eight interceptions. He has been sacked 16 times and has a passer rating of 69.2, next to last in the NFC.
