CHARLESTON, S.C., Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Michael Sim earned his first Nationwide Tour victory Monday by defeating Ken Duke on the first playoff hole in the PalmettoPride Classic in South Carolina.
Sim, who turned 22 on Monday, forced the playoff with pars on holes 17 and 18 as he completed his weather-delayed fourth round. He sank a 6-foot birdie try on the par-5 18th after Duke had missed a 9-foot birdie putt.
"I kept telling myself I was going to make it," said Sim. "As soon as I hit it I looked up and it was heading straight for the middle of the cup. It was nice to see that ball go in."
Sim collected $90,000 for first place while Duke, who had completed his fourth round Sunday with a 65, won $54,000.
Sim and Duke finished the fourth round at 12-under-par 276. Jarrod Lyle was third at 10-under 278 and seven players ended tied for fourth at 9-under 279.
