BRISTOL, Ill., Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Justin Mapp scored in the 35th minute Sunday as Chicago beat New England, 1-0, in the Major League Soccer playoffs.
It was the opener of the Eastern Conference series.
The goal came on a free kick for Mapp after New England's Jay Heaps was whistled for an obstruction foul just outside the box, which earned him a yellow card.
The Revolution's Taylor Twellman failed to break his playoff scoring drought, while Clint Dempsey had a shot on goal that sailed wide in the 78th minute.
The series continues at Foxboro next Saturday.
