MLB: St. Louis 3, N.Y. Mets 1

NEW YORK, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Yadier Molina's two-run homer in the ninth inning Thursday night gave St. Louis a 3-1 win over the New York Mets in Game 7 of the NLCS.

Before Molina's blast, the game's only runs came on an RBI single by the Mets' David Wright in the first and a sacrifice bunt by the Cardinals' Ronny Belliard in the second.

Starter Jeff Suppan gave up one run and only two hits in seven innings with five walks and two strikeouts.

The winner was Randy Flores (1-0). Adam Wainwright, who earned a save, struck out Carlos Beltran with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth.

Mets starter Oliver Perez surrendered one run and four hits in six innings.

The loser was Aaron Heilman (0-1).

The Mets' Endy Chavez robbed the Cardinals' Scott Rolen of a two-run homer in the sixth inning, running down a drive to left -- and then doubled Jim Edmonds at firsst to end the inning.

St. Louis is at Detroit for Game 1 of the World Series Saturday night.
