Report: Barber may retire from NFL

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Oct. 18 (UPI) -- New York Giants all-time leading rusher Kiki Barber hinted he may retire at the end of this season.

The New York Times reported Wednesday Barber, 31, told a group at a book promotion event he was "leaning toward" retirement. His business agent backed up the report, the newspaper said.

Barber Wednesday was selected the NFC's offensive player of the week for his 185-yard effort against Atlanta and his 533 rushing yards lead the NFL this season.

He is the Giants' all-time leading rusher with 9,320 yards on 1,992 carries. He has 550 career pass receptions for another 4,908 yards. Barber has scored a total of 63 touchdowns.

Last year Barber had 1,860 rushing yards and 2,390 combined yards -- the second highest total in NFL history.

Barber, a University of Virginia graduate, has been with the Giants since they took him in the second round of the 1997 draft.
