
MADRID, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Current No. 1 Roger Federer and former top-ranked Andy Roddick were second-round winners Tuesday at the Madrid Masters.
The top-seeded Federer defeated Chilean Nicolas Massu, the 2003 Madrid runner- up, 6-3, 6-2. Sixth-seeded Roddick got past Frenchman Sebastien Grosjean 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) at Madrid Arena.
Federer, reigning Wimbledon, U.S. Open and Australian Open champion, beat Roddick in last month's U.S. Open finale.
Federer is on a 15-match winning streak and is now 78-5 this season. The Swiss is trying to win at least 10 titles in a season for a third consecutive year.
Russian Marat Safin, last week's Moscow runner-up to Nikolay Davydenko, beat Jose Acasuso of Argentina 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (4-7), 6-3.
Also, seventh-seeded Spaniard Tommy Robredo beat Juan Ignacio Chela" class="tpstyle">Argentine Juan Ignacio Chela 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-3).
