CARSON, Calif., Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Jafet Soto scored a goal in the 89th minute, giving Real Salt Lake a 1-1 tie with Chivas USA in the team's MLS final regular-season game.
Soto's goal Sunday was his first of the season and came in the regular-season's final minute. He took a pass from Chris Klein and beat Chivas goalkeeper Brad Guzan to tie the score at 1-1.
Chivas took a 1-0 lead in the game's 20th minute when Brent Whitfield collected the first goal of his MLS career.
Chivas, which finished third in the MLS Western Conference, opens its playoffs with a game at Houston next Sunday. Real Salt Lake saw its season end with a 10-13-9 record.
Real Salt Lake forward Jeff Cunningham won the MLS Golden Boot, given to the leading goal scorer of the season. He had 18 goals, two more than D.C. United's Christian Gomez and Chivas' Ante Razov.
