WASHINGTON, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Gonzalo Segares and Nate Jaqua scored goals three minutes apart, boosting the Chicago Fire to a 3-2 victory over D.C. United in their MLS regular-season finale.
The game Sunday meant nothing to the standings, as both teams had qualified for the playoffs. Chicago opens its postseason with a game at New England while D.C. United, the MLS Eastern champions, will be at home against New York next weekend.
Segares put the Fire up 1-0 in the 21st minute when he headed in a nice feed from Justin Mapp. Jaqua doubled the lead with a shot from his midfield position that beat D.C. goalkeeper Nick Rimando.
Chicago sealed the game with Andy Herron's shot from 18 yards, which made the score 3-1 with in the 74th minute.
Both of D.C. United's goals came from Christian Gomez with Freddie Adu assisting. The first came in the 34th minute against Chicago goalkeeper Matt Pickens and the second in the 82nd. Gomez ended the season with 14 goals, tied for second-best in the MSL.
