
PITTSBURGH, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Scott Walker scored two goals and Ray Whitney had two assists Saturday night as Carolina trounced Pittsburgh, 5-1.
Eric Staal scored once; Mike Commodore added a goal and an assist; and goalie Cam Ward made 25 saves on 26 shots for the Hurricanes (2-3-1).
Carolina forward Trevor Letowski was carted off the ice on a stretcher in the first period after colliding with Pittsburgh forward Colby Armstrong.
After Letowski was placed on a stretcher, Carolina's trainers and medical team placed his neck in a brace before he was taken to a hospital.
No details on his condition were available.
Kristopher Letang scored the lone goal on the power play in the second period after assists by Sergei Gonchar and Nils Ekman; and starting goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury allowed three goals on 20 shots before leaving the contest midway through the second period with a head injury for the Penguins (2-2-0).
