EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Amado Guevara scored all three goals Saturday night as the New York Red Bulls beat Kansas City, 3-2, to earn a Major League Soccer playoff berth.

Two of Guevara's goals came on penalty kicks.

New York (9-11-12) secured its playoff spot despite winning only two of its last eight games.

The Wizards (10-14-8), who were eliminated from the post-season chase, got their goals from Dave van den Bergh and Scott Sealy.

Van den Bergh scored un-assisted in the 23rd minute; and Sealy's tally came in the 83rd minute after an assist by Sasha Victorine.

Jon Conway made three saves for the Red Bulls; while Bo Oshoniyi made two saves for the Wizards.

It is the second straight year that New York eliminated Kansas City from the playoff chase on the final game of the regular season.

New York will be home to Eastern Conference champion D.C. United next Saturday.
