Ethiopian wins first marathon in Baltimore

BALTIMORE, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- A 20-year-old Ethiopian who never ran a marathon before won the 2006 Baltimore Marathon Saturday in two hours 16 minutes and 27 seconds.

Yirefu Bihanu beat last year's champion, Mykola Antoneko, who finished in second place.

Not only had Bihanu not run a marathon before, he did not arrive in Baltimore until Friday, The Baltimore Sun reported.

Rima Douborik from Ukraine shattered the record for the women's portion of the Baltimore Marathon, winning in just over two hours, 35 minutes.
