Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
BURBANK, Calif., Oct. 13 (UPI) -- A private jet containing third baseman Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees Friday overran a runway at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, Calif.
The plane was stopped by an arresting system, which the Yankees noted on their Web site is a 200-foot long stretch of pavement injected with air bubbles designed to collapse under the weight of an aircraft as large as a Boeing 737 jet traveling as fast as 50 knots.
In a statement, the National Transportation Safety Board in Washington said the aircraft carried five passengers and two crew members.
Federal officials indicated that none of the seven was injured.
It was the second aircraft incident involving a Yankees player this week. On Wednesday, a plane carrying pitcher Cory Lidle crashed into the 40th floor of an apartment building in Manhattan.
Lidle was one of two people killed.
