
SPRING, Texas, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- There is a three-way tie for the lead after the first round of the Champions Tour's Administaff Small Business golf tournament in Spring, Texas.
In Friday's first round, Jay Haas, Dick Mast and Tom Purtzer all shot 7-under-par 65 to forge a two-shot lead over Dave Eichelberger and Bruce Lietzke.
A group of five players -- Brad Bryant, Tom Jenkins, Dana Quigley, Bill Rogers, and Curtis Strange -- are 4-under 68 to tie for sixth place.
Defending champion Mark McNulty opened at 1-under 71, good for a tie for 26th place with ten others.
At 9-over 81, Denis Watson shot the day's highest score, and 76-year-old Arnold Palmer withdrew before the tournament began, saying he was done with competitive golf.
Mast has never won on the Champions Tour.
