NHL: Pittsburgh 6, N.Y. Rangers 5

NEW YORK, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Sidney Crosby scored a power play goal with about just under four seconds remaining Thursday night as Pittsburgh edged the New York Rangers, 6-5.

Ryan Whitney scored twice; Crosby also had three assists; Colby Armstrong and Mark Recchi each had two assists; and goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury gave up five goals on 37 shots for the Penguins (2-1-0).

With four points in its first three games, the Penguins are tied with New Jersey for second place in the Atlantic Division.

Jaromir Jagr had a goal and two assists; Matt Cullen, Adam Hall, Michael Nylander and Brendan Shanahan all had one goal; Martin Straka also had two assists; and goalie Henrik Lundqvist was beaten six times on 22 shots for the Rangers (2-2-0), who have lost two straight games after winning their first two games of the new season.

The Rangers, who also have four points, lead the Atlantic Division.
