Blake eases into Stockholm quarterfinals

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Defending champion James Blake cruised to a straight-set victory Thursday in second-round play of the $826,000 Stockholm Open.

The second-seeded Blake, from the United States, ousted Germany's Simon Greul 6-3, 6-2 to earn a quarterfinal berth against sixth-seeded Belgian Olivier Rochus.

Third-seeded Tomas Berdych, from the Czech Republic, and, No. 5 Finn Jarkko Nieminen also won Thursday. Berdych stopped Sweden's Andreas Vinciguerra 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 and Nieminen was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over France's Marc Gicquel.

But fourth-seeded David Ferrer was upset 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, by Feliciano Lopez in a battle of Spanish players.

Friday's quarterfinals winners move to Saturday play with the tournament finals scheduled for Sunday.
