NEW YORK, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Game 1 of the NL Championship Series between St. Louis and the Mets at New York's Shea Stadium Wednesday night was postponed by rain.
The contest was postponed until Thursday night with Game 2 moved to Friday night, also at Shea Stadium.
Jimmie Lee Solomon, Major League Baseball's executive vice president of baseball operations, said the decision was not related to the death of New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle on Wednesday afternoon in a plane crash on the East Side of Manhattan.
Neither team immediately announced its starters for Thursday night's contest.
Wednesday's starters were to be left-hander Tom Glavine for the Mets, and right-hander Jeff Weaver for the Cardinals.
Friday had been a scheduled off day for the teams before the series shifted to St. Louis for Games 3 and 4 on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
A possible Game 5 would be Monday at the Cardinals' Busch Stadium.
