Garrigues loses in Bangkok

BANGKOK, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- No. 2 seed Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain Wednesday was a straight sets loser in the second round of the Bangkok Open tennis tournament.

Garrigues lost to unseeded Mariana Diaz-Oliva of Argentina, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-4.

Third seed Nathalie Dechy of France topped China's Zi Yan, 6-4, 6-4; No. 5 Eleni Daniilidou of Greece beat Taipei's Su-Wei Hsieh, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3; No. 8 seed Jelena Kostanic downed China's Meng Yuan, 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5); and ninth-seeded Severine Bremond of France topped Japan's Ryoko Fuda, 6-2, 2-6, 7-5.

Other winners were Japan's Erika Takao; Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic; Aiko Nakamura of Japan; and Vania King" class="tpstyle">American Vania King.

The 2006 Bangkok champion will pocket $30,500.
