Jenkins wins rain-shortened Champions

CARY, N.C., Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Tom Jenkins was declared winner of the Champions Tour's SAS Championship in Cary, N.C. Sunday when wet conditions forced the cancellation of the final round.

Only two rounds were played.

Jenkins, playing in just his third event on the elder circuit, finished at 10-under-par 134 for a one-shot victory over the tour's money leader, Loren Roberts, and Chip Beck.

"It feels good to win anytime," said Jenkins, who earned $300,000, his largest paycheck. "It was a great feeling to come back and play well this year."

It was his seventh title on the Champions Tour and his first this season.

Jenkins' last victory came at last year's Allianz Championship.

Mitch Adcock, who was playing on a sponsor's exemption, was fourth at 8-under 136, one shot better than Jay Haas.
